FAQs
At Perspectives Photo School, we want you to feel confident and informed when joining our programs. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about our photography classes, workshops, and policies.
General Questions
What kinds of classes do you offer?
We offer a wide range of programs for youth, teens, and adults, including:
Workshops (Fundamentals, Advanced Fundamentals, Portrait, Nature & Landscape, Light + Composition, and more)
Youth Summer Camps and School Break Programs
Mentorship Programs for middle and high school students
Private Lessons with a personalized curriculum
Open Studio Sessions for guided practice and feedback
Do I need a camera to participate?
For most of our programs, a DSLR or mirrorless camera is recommended. However, certain workshops and youth camps also welcome phone photographers. If you don’t have a camera, we can recommend affordable rental options.
Are your classes for beginners or more advanced photographers?
Both! We offer structured learning paths that start with the basics (Fundamentals I) and progress through more advanced techniques. Whether you’re brand new to photography or looking to refine your skills, we’ll help you grow at your own pace.
Where are classes held?
Our studio is located in Emeryville, CA, and we frequently hold field trips at Bay Area locations such as Golden Gate Park, Tilden Park, and Rodeo Beach. Specific locations are listed on each class page.
How big are class sizes?
We keep our classes small to ensure personalized attention. Most workshops have 6–12 students, and camps/mentorship groups are capped for a supportive, collaborative environment.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes! Gift certificates can be purchased for workshops, camps, or private lessons—perfect for birthdays, holidays, or encouraging someone’s creative journey.
Registration & Payment
How do I register?
All classes and programs can be registered through our website. Simply visit the program page, choose your date, and complete the registration form.
Do you offer financial aid or scholarships?
Yes. We’re committed to making photography accessible. Scholarship opportunities are available for youth programs, and we also run community fundraising efforts such as silent auctions to support students.
Do you offer discounts?
We occasionally run promotions and seasonal savings. The best way to hear about discounts is by signing up for our newsletter, where we share special offers and upcoming opportunities.
Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
What if I need to cancel my registration?
Cancellations made at least 30 days before the program start date are eligible for a full refund.
Cancellations made within 30 days are not refundable, but you may apply your registration to the next available date of the same class or a comparable program.
Can I reschedule instead of cancel?
Yes. We’re happy to transfer your registration to another available date, provided we receive notice prior to the start of the program.
What happens if Perspectives Photo School cancels a class?
If we need to cancel or reschedule due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, you’ll have the option of a full refund or transferring your registration to another date.

Do you provide editing instruction?

Will I get feedback on my photos?
Absolutely. Personalized feedback is central to our teaching approach. Students also gain valuable insights by sharing and discussing their work with peers.
